What have I done?!?! '64 series 2a 109

#1 Post by terayon » Sat Dec 27, 2014 10:43 pm

Well chaps,
Looks like I've caught the fever. I picked up a 1963 Series IIa 109 from a member (Marc) last week. So far so good. I'm very happy with the truck. I've only found a little rust so far, and for the most part it gets better and better the closer I look at it. Its an interesting LHD model that came from Switzerland, made a tour of Africa, and the migrated to Victoria BC.
It has some fun extra's including:
Rear defog element
Rear defog fan
Full roof rack
free wheeling hubs
PTO winch
Aftermarket heater
Tower back front seats (European car unknown)
Vacuum assist brakes
12v alternator
Kph speedo
etc...

With the exception of a bit of a Frankenstein dash full of 'home made improvements' the truck is a real gem. I'm really looking forward to working on it. I'm always looking for advice & helpful input if you have any. Also i'm on the hunt for an overdrive, new or otherwise.

Thanks!
Jordan

As much as it seems odd to congratulate someone on becoming an addict, welcome to the club! I've had lots of great help come my way from this forum, and not just advice. I blew a clutch master cylinder once and had a member here rescue me with a replacement part within 2 hours of an appeal, asking only for a replacement part when it arrived via mail-order. Lots of great folks with great knowledge, and always ready to help a fellow Rovah-holic. A very warm welcome to you! And yes ... pictures ...?

Ok, so here goes on a few pics. I managed to get it started today with some help from a friend and a few bad words. It turned out to be a stuck float, bad connections, and keys that didnt fit the ignition. All fixed and now we are good to go!

Let me know what you guys think, I'm sure i'll be asking lots of questions in the comming months!

Thanks!
Jordan

PS I had some trouble posting these pics, so I hope they turned out.

Yes Congratulations Jordan, that's a really nice truck. You've probably taken note of the excellent and complete interior by now. I know most remaining 109's lost their door panels many years ago but yours is truly a collector.

It's a great truck for sure. I went and looked at it when it first came up for sale, lots of unique parts and history. Hopefully you can get it up and running and still keep the unique stuff as well.

A thing of beauty! I particularly like the horse shoe on the grill. I've got one too. It seems to be a popular addition. Just for fun, I also put on a subdued "M-Series" emblem ... drives my BMW-fanatic uncle mad!
