Dear Rooster 33,
Day trips with a group; spare tire with plug kit if you like and tire goop if you must (tire shops will sometimes refuse to work on tires that have been gooped), Spare fluids for all pieces of machinery and passengers, at least one recovery strap, food, clothing, waterproof boots, highlift Jack, large strong shackles that attach to secure recovery points at front and rear of vehicle, a first aid kit is nice, a shovel can be useful, toilet paper is a must, a CB radio helps communication with other members of the group. Wood cutting device can speed advances along the trail, axe, bow saw or chainsaw if you have the room. Don't forget special personal considerations like medication, sunscreen etc.
Day trips alone; all of the above plus some sort of self recovery equipment like a winch, comealong or a tirfir, warm blankets and extra food in case you have to spend the night, let someone know where you have gone and when they should send out the cavalry to rescue you.
Camping trips, more of everything including shelter and sleeping accomodation for all aboard, firewood or firewood cutting implements, method of starting fire, consider more spare parts. things to share with the group, try to leave egos at home and be laid back with others.
Travel as lightly as possible but try to remember the essentials, a trip without a can opener, a pillow or toilet paper can be a drag if everyone else forgot them too.
Bill
