My clutch pedal started acting funny, only once in awhile. Then It became very stiff and sometimes almost impossible to push down. After it sat for a while it would soften up, but now doesn't???? Any ideas?

What is the vehicle? Sounds like the system has "pumped up' and is under pressure. For immediate relief you could crack the blead screw on the slave and see if pressure releases. Problem could be a damaged flex hose. If it is an older Series Land Rover (not talking Discovery here) and the return spring is still fitted at the slave cylinder you could try removing it.

It's a 1968, Series 2A 109 with a Series 3 Gearbox and a Mercedes Diesel engine. I don't think it is anything to do with the conversion. Once it gets into gear it shifts and drives fine. It's just very difficult to depress the clutch??????

John is probably right that its a collapsed hose. This can happen in a manner where it makes it very difficult to depress the pedal. If you release the bleeder, check the fluid that comes out. If it is blackish you've likely had a mix of DOT3 and DOT4 fluids in the system resulting in deterioration of the flex hose.
