Hi again,
I'm driving a 1966 Series 2A with the 2.25 litre petrol engine. I lost a nut off the throttle linkage coming back from the Victoria airport along the Pat Bay Highway yesterday evening. I was able to coast to the side of the road, put up my ever-trusty hazard triangles (don't leave home without them!!). Some electrical tape kept it together long enough to get me home. Problem is, while fiddling with the tape and linkage, another piece fell off. I have no idea what it is or where it came from, other than guessing it came from the linkage or carb (a Weber 32/36), or some place in the area of the brake master cylinder. Since finding this little gem, I've been running rough, and blowing some black smoke at high RPMs. Take a look at the attached pic. That's a penny for size comperison. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: WTF Is This Thing?
It's called a cleco it's for holding sheet metal together for assembly like riveting.

Ahh! so a fastener, not anything particularly mechanically important? Good. Thank you muchly!

Re: WTF Is This Thing?
Not a fastener, it is a tool someone left for you. It needs a special pair of cleco pliers to use it. Drill a hole in two pieces of metal and put the cleco through the holes and it is spring loaded to hold them together used extensively in aviation.
Your rover looks familiar I may have owned it at one time, how are the door windows holding up?

Re: WTF Is This Thing?
Door windows are great - Rocky Mountain's. The passenger side glass just started to rattle a bit, but a piece of foam tape fixed that up.
I found the spot the cleco was stuck - it was holding on one corner of the brake fluid reservoir to the mounting bracket. Why they didn't use a bolt is beyond me, but hey ... whatever. Anyway, mystery solved. Thanks. The rough idle and smoking ended up being a result of me messing with the electric choke, which I must have accidentally knocked out of whack while fumbling with the tape in the dark. All fixed.
BTW, when I got the Landie, it came with a new canvas top, which I switched out for the hardtop (also included) which was flat green, like the body. I painted it tan. It came with a Weber 32/26 two-barrel carb, if that helps you tell if it was your old one.
Anyway, Roverlanders forum to the rescue... again!
