Going in the shipping container later this week with the rest of our stuff!

Now there's an idea!

She's a July 1997 300TDi with one German owner from new and fairly full service history.

She's almost as good as she looks, having had a partial refurb and has most of the major issues dealt with. All very original.

Bulkhead has rust on passenger side and will be my next job in the spring. Not too bad but needs dealing with, along with water leak from one of the side windows into the rear tub.

Chassis seems to have benefitted from care, as the main rails seem to be fine with no surprise hidden rust. They are on the 2014 Waxoyl list as I ran out of time! Outriggers/cross members all replaced in the last 12 months.

Re-undersealed after pre-shipping intensive clean.

Interior is all good and only needed the foam on the driver's seat back replacing. Has a saggy roof liner, so re-skinning could be an interesting project next year :)

All window seals replaced and other bits and bobs.

Has a Td5 back door and heated window (which enabled me to easily add a high level brake light from a scrap yard and a Td5 door card) and a swing-away spare wheel mount. Front door steel is good, but 2nd row will be on the 2014 list for attention before they get any worse.

Cambelt changed and brake pipes replaced just before shipping.

The wheels/tyres are 265/75 R16 Yokohamas on 8.5Jx16 Compomotive ATRR wheels - the wheels were designed by Compomotive specifically for the Defender and hence do not foul the steering or brakes etc.

A shame Compomotive went bust, but it meant I got a brand new set of wheels and tyres from a Compomotive dealer for less than the price of the tyres on their own!! The wonder of eBay!!

Shipping container has a few boxes of bits in it for future work, including a few service kits, various clips and fixings and a pair of bulkhead top corner repair panels in case the need arises when I deal with the rust next year!

The paint is Mercedes Arctic White (which is their standard van colour), so should be easily matched.

Eleven years in this house and a vehicle has not set a wheel in there.

Where else do you expect people to keep all the crap in little British houses??

Good luck with the voyage across the Pond; only bit of advice - if you're packing anything that'll be affected by temperature into the container - be mindful that it can get pretty cold on the train ride from Montreal to the West Coast. From personal experience, it was around -40c when our container crossed the country and a few things nearly got damaged beyond salvage.

Originally expected via the long sea route via Panama Canal, now coming on the short sea route to Montreal and onward to Vancouver via CP Rail.

Expected to arrive in Kelowna in about 3 weeks time now!

Then it will just be the mortgage for ICBC insurance to deal with!!!

The hardest job was paying for the insurance. Ouch.

Second hardest was drilling the winch bumper for the front license plate! Had to buy a new drill :roll:

Typically Ive found the Defender 110 basic insurance with ICBC to be between $1200 and $1600 per year depending on your hard earnt discount rating.... Then the "top up" options can add another $200 to $500 on top of that.

I'm not sure what ICBC "black book" replacement cost shows because as you know, over here Defenders can range from $8000 to $80,000 :shock: .... hopefully I never need to find out!

Post-Christmas adventures may transpire, however I have just noticed that a fuel tank leak has appeared. Trust me to decide to get a tank full....

May be the seam, or the sender (although the latter is new)...haven't looked yet! I certainly won't be eating THAT yellow snow...

Siphon, half tanks and a jerry can for a while, until I have time to deal with (or at this time of the year, get someone else to deal with!)

I would have thought insurance in the Okanogan would have been similar to Vancouver Island - which isn't too bad.

How long have you been driving (clean)? I have the max discount and my NAS 90 is less than $1100 for full coverage (with extra liability and collision/comp), including business use.

A very long time, however it is very difficult to get ICBC to accept the Insurance History letters that you get from UK insurance companies.

Of the 8 years you can submit (to get 5% discount per year), they rejected 7 of the letters because they only had first and middle initials and not full name.... :|

We have 6 months to provide revised letters to get the discount as a refund.

Kelowna/Okanagan insurance is apparently quite high - if you've seen the drivers and the number of crashes every day on 97 through the city, you would understand why!!

That's interesting (and disappointing). We spent 19 years in Alberta and they actually wanted letters all the way back to approve our discount. Initially - I couldn't even recall the insurance companies involved (it's private there and we had several underwriters and several acquisitions during that time) - but we put our heads together and got all of the history - except for 9 months! ICBC took that 9 months off the discount!

I'm hoping you can get it sorted out in time!
