Answer to a gearbox leak.

Time will tell but I might have solved my LT77 gearbox leak. I've been plagued with a leak for over a year and I've done everything but remove the box to fix it. Right now the top of it has gobs of latex and silicon slathered over it to stem a leak from the top. All to no avail. Leaks as bad as before I started sealing it. I top it up every 300 to 500 kms with 300 to 400 ml of ATF. On my recent trip I got fed up with my level plug because it was too tight a fit for my 1/2" wrench. I could easily keep a 13 mm wrench around but decided to replace the steel plug with a brass one that my wrench would fit better. The steel one always recessed into the fill hole. The new brass one must have more taper or is simply newer as it stands proud a couple threads. Guess what? My leak seems to be gone, or almost gone! Time will tell but I've got 1500 km on it and it still doesn't need ANY ATF. The plug seems to have been the leak and I guess the wind would drive the oil up. It then looked like it was dripping down. Does it cause any problem's? Yes! It now needs a 9/16" wrench and that doesn't fit well on two of the flats so I'll have to file it to fit.

Check the easy stuff first.
