66 2A 109 rebuild and mod
I recently picked up a abandoned project last on the road 29 years ago.
It is a 1966 series 2a 109 it was gas engined(disassembled now) but I plan to change that.
I am not starting with enough parts to get it on the road and have some plans to put another drive train into it but nothing fixed in stone yet.
So far I have removed everything from the frame replaced the rear cross member with one from a fellow in Sechelt, and painted the frame with POR15.
Hoping to get it up and running in about a year and around $2500. (yah my wife is sceptical too)

Looks like you've got a VERY solid frame and platform to work on there mate. Congrats, it's certainly better than my swiss cheese hack job over a 2A! Where did you pick it up form if you don't mind me asking?
I'm down in Parksville - give me a shout if you ever need a hand with anything.
Cheers

I picked it up in Comox about 500 meters as the crow flies from my house.
The body was removed from the frame and the frame and axles where in his garage for at least 11 years.
I have ordered all the parts to re attach the axles to the frame then I can move it outside for a while(I need to do a few woodworking projects)

Holy Crap that frame looks to be in fine shape!
I'm super stoked for you...or maybe just happy someone finally posted something on the 'Projects' page (LandyAndy's been far too quiet these days!)!
Best of luck!

all new frame and axle bushings axle bushings installed(from rocky mountain), axles temporarily installed so I can move it around.
What to do about the steering relay I have managed to get it to spin it around but it feels like it is to loose has anyone taken one apart while it was in the frame?

Great looking project. Is this from the guy in comox who has a bunch of trucks? He was advertising on LRX for a while.
When i rebuild my truck i just replaced the steering relay with a new one. It took alot of heat and hammering to remove it from my frame. If you can get the steering relay out of the frame I would suggest just replacing it with a new unit. By the time you find parts to rebuild it you'll be pretty close to the price of a new one, plus there's the danger factor of disassembling the relay if your not careful it can seriously hurting yourself or sending it through the roof of your workshop.

No this one did not come from the hoarder I plan on going to see him in a while to see if I can get some parts from him.
I have heard of the danger with the spring in the relay, for now i removed one of the top bolts an have been filling it with oil every now and then some pretty gross stuff is coming out the bottom.
And you never know I might come up with a power steering plan not sure yet.

I am starting to look for a diesel engine any thoughts on what to use. I plan on driving this daily and would like to be able to go down the highway every now and then 100km/h and get reasonable fuel milage. My original plan was to put a toyota 3B and 5speed into it but am having second thoughts. The rover came with a disassembled gas engine that I am not to keen on assembling and using could partially trade if someone wants it.
I also have a stock 4 speed transmission that came with it. So to get to around 100km/h I would need an overdrive, ascroft gears, higher geared diffs, or put an RX7 engine in it to get the RPM required.
2.25d
2.5d
Toyota 3B + 5speed out of an 80s landcruiser.
I would use a gas engine combo but fuel milage is a consideration.

What about a mercedes 300TD OM617 ? I found a whole car running for 600$ when I swapped that into my Disco.

Re: 66 2A 109 rebuild and mod
If I do a swap I was hoping to use the engine and transmission from the donating vehicle, that is another reason for the interest in a 3B landcruiser parts as the outputs are both on the right hand side like a rover and only rated at about 90hp.
