"Lipstick on a pig"

#1 Post by 97DISCO » Fri Dec 14, 2012 6:45 pm

So is this a project or a build? I think that just keeping this thing running will be a project.

So I bought a 1985 RED 110. If I break down the original vin it's a standard 2.5 petrol LT77

It looks good from 100 feet so I coined it "lip stick on a pig" because once you get close enough you can see why it was advertised so cheap.

I didn't even start it as I figured I would make a reasonable offer and if it turned out to be too much work well just resell it to someone with more time

First job get it started.

Welcome and Congratulations.

How is the chassis/frame and bulkhead/Firewall...sorry we tend to use the British slang for the parts.

There are some good Rover shops out here that would happily have a look at it.

Just look at the supporters tab on the main Home screen.

Does it at least turn over?

Cheers,

Did you have that in here for a steering box last week? Looked like a nice rig, and thank you as that was my first opportunity to see the undersides of a Defender.

had a few minutes and thought what better than to work on the 110 in the rain.

-installed the rebuilt starter but still just clicking must need a charge
-had neighbour pull start it. with no luck.
-maybe the gas gauge is working so i add gas.
-pull start 2 had it firing and running but only with the gas pedal
-discover manual choke button hmmm!!!!
- so truck runs decent and warms up fine

opened the fuse cover to see why heater fan isn't running

wow

Any recommendations on a repair manual to cover a 1985 110 with good wiring diagram?

Factory manual? I found some online PDF manuals but would prefer the physical book

Thanks

Yes, the factory manuals. They are online for download as well as parts catalogs. If you have trouble finding them, let me know and I'll look for the links.

You can purchase the factory paper manuals through many of the rover parts suppliers.

I colour coded and labelled the military diagram here: http://www.red90.ca/rovers/Defender%20F ... iagram.pdf It is for the most part the same as the civilian trucks.

Nice project! The digital manuals are nice just get used to them. Is the 4x4/ transmission problem solved?

Keep the pictures coming!

How is the corroding problem on the aluminium?
