So I got my diesel disco up and running for the past few weeks.
All is great, except I notice a bit of a whine type notice as soon as I put any pressure on the skinny pedal. When I let off its gone, could this be my t-case,rear end or what. I'm kinda stumped here, trying to figure out if its normal noise or not.
Thanks

My 2000 Disco II would whine...alot compared to other vehicles but it was supposedly "normal". Like yours, it would only whine when pressure on the accelerator..I drove it for 5 years and had no driveline issues.

Re: Driveline whine???
The transfer cases can make some noise. Whether or not it is normal, is pretty hard to determine across the internet. The cases have a known problem where the intermediate shaft works out the hole in the case and this increases gear noise. It is usually accompanied with a leak through the o-ring.

Re: Driveline whine???
I've also had a whine through the linkage of the shifter on some Range Rovers and Discoverys. Try wiggling the shifter around when you're driving to see if this makes a difference to the noise you're getting. If it is, you can take off the boot, grease the lower shifter housing, and stuff more foam/rags/etc. into the pocket below the boot to cushion the vibration.
