Winch Bumper

#1 Post by e.prevost94 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 8:10 pm

Got this custom winch bumper made up for my '91 Classic by a buddy of mine. Managed to save the old rusty brush guard. Now it's stronger than ever. I have to say that I'm really happy with the end result. If anybody is interested, I could have a chat with my buddy and try to figure out some kind of deal.

Just to give guys more ideas, here's pics of the front & rear bumpers I did for my 92 RRC.

I was going to mount a winch directly to the front bumper, but then decided to go with a 2" receiver hitch for a few reasons.
1. can mount winch front or back
2. winch isn't always on the vehicle
3. front bumper is closer to grill increasing approach angle
4. gave me a place to mount my front licence plate

That looks really sharp. I'm going to be building a rear bumper here pretty quick. Something with quarter protection, and good approach angle. I also plan on making a swing away spare tire carrier with pockets for Jerry cans. I plan on making it fit directly on the hitch. I'll post pics once I get going on that one.

Good pics. That's the basic idea. But for my Quarter protection, I want it to run all the way along to the rear tires. I also am planning to make the spare tire carrier separate and make it plug into the hitch receiver. That way I can have one for around town, one for a weekend trip with room for a jerry can or 2, and one that'll hold a bunch of jerry cans, the tire, and a high lift jack. I'd seen this guy with a jeep have one to haul around his dirt bike. Who know's what you could come up with!

I've also been thinking about getting rid of the stock hitch, and putting something in the bumper itself to get a little better approach angle.

Heres some pics of a bumper rack that I modified for huntint.
I made it to hold 2 jerry cans & a storage box. All which can come out in the event that I actually get game which would then ride out back.
Only draw back is on my Disco I can't open the rear door. Not a biggy on my RRC as I can access everything from the rear window.
