The calendar seems to still be down. What are the details currently know for this event? Is it a day trip or an overnighter?

Yes, the calendar is still down, although its being worked on today.

Details at this time... This is an overnight on Saturday night. Gary Spicer will report back the accomodations situation to us later today. I think we'll be camping but the location is not certain yet.

Departure: Horseshoe Bay Ferry, Saturday, April 23rd, 7:20 AM.

Return: Langdale Ferry, Sunday April 24th, 4:30 PM.

Of course, leaving adequate time at each end to get in line...

:? Anyone know of a campsite in Langdale or close by? Coming from the Island on Sat morning I won't make it. I thought I'd come over and push to Langdale and camp there the night before and meet up with the group on Sat morning. Or if there is camping around Horseshoe bay area.

Gary just reported back on his findings...

He suggests camping at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park on Saturday night. Derek, you could camp there on Friday night as well. This is just a few kilometers north of Sechelt. Meeting spot on Saturday morning will be confirmed after Thursday evening's meeting.

Gary has two routes planned:

First, the Dakota Creek loop, which originates just out of Port Mellon and comes out at Roberts Creek.

Second, a trip up the west side of the peninsula to(wards) the lookout at Mt Hallowell. I understand we'll be lucky to get as far as the lookout, but we'll see...

My thoughts are to do the lookout on Saturday, since there is no ferry deadline looming like there is on Sunday. We'll discuss it further Thursday night.

Shawn, you've been up towards the lookout, right?

OK, just a recap after tonights meeting. We are taking the first ferry out of Horseshoe Bay Saturday morning, 7:20 AM, and proceeding to Sechelt, then north to Porpoise Bay Provincial Campground, there to establish our spot at the group campsite, drop off uneccesary gear and prepare for the day's outing. Sometime between 9:30 & 10 we should be ready to depart. We will be aiming to reach Mt. Hallowell lookout by mid afternoon, all being well, and return to the campsite in time for supper. You can cook at the campsite or drive the few kilometers back to Sechelt for dinner.

Next morning, we will pack up camp, proceed back through Sechelt and all the way out to Port Mellon, where we will meet up with a few others at approximately 10:30. We will then do the Dakota Creek loop, which comes back out at the highway. This should take about 3 hours so will put us back in time to perhaps have some fish & chips in Gibsons before catching the ferry home.

So far planning on going, Gary Spicer and his wife (shameful I can't remember her name!), Andy Deane, Shawn Doherty, Bill Eastwood, Rick Mellenger and Dave & Pamela Blair. Arriving the night before to keep the campsite warm is Derek from the Island in his 82 Lightweight. And joining us on Sunday is Phil & Deb, and Kris Maksymiuk ... and I hope a few more of you!

See you at the ferry dock.

Gary was talking to the fellow who looks after the campground. The group campground is available, however a chain will be across the entrance. Just take it down and proceed. To get the best camping rate, 2 trucks to a site, which is allowed, but each site is $20 per night so unless you want to pay the whole $20 yourself...
