Injector pump solonoid

Hi eveyone.

The shut off solonoid for the injector pump on my 2.5 NA diesel has started to leak fuel. I have the part # and am looking for a new one and have some questions before I contamplate doing the repair myself.

Has anyone done this themselves? Are there things I should be aware of? Does anyone have diagrams or manuals for these pumps? Or should I just leave this to a diesel mechnic to do?

I've never worked on an injector pump before so any advice would be helpful.

It is easy to replace the fuel shut off other than it can be tricky to get a wrench on it. Also make sure the area is really clean before doing anything to the pump.

I was hoping it was an easy repair, but didn't want to start unthreading just to have something fly out across the shop and vanish.

Also when it comes off don't drop the plunger and spring, they can't get lost in the pump but they will get lost on the floor. If your new one comes with a new plunger and spring hang onto the old ones as spares incase they ever get lost... I found out the hard way :oops:

Manuals are hard to come by, but I have an exploded view that came with the overhaul kit.. pass on youre email adderss and I will scan or tak a pic of it for you.... and the solinoid if I find it.

I just pulled it and epoxied along the edge of the metal sleeve and the plastic inner part so I'm hoping it will stop or atleast decrease the leak and buy me some time. The niehbors are not impressed and my fuel economy is the pits. :cry:

Any good diesel service shop should have the soloniod in stock, rovers are not the only things with Lucas injection pumps.

Do you know what part number it might go by? The only number I could find was an LR one and I'll will probably have to order the part.

It sucks being out in the boonies, there are good mechanics around but they don't keep anything in stock. I prefered when I was in Van and you could walk in with the part and compare.

You should be able to use the information off of the side of the pump on the Lucas plate.
