My New Rover

#1 Post by Dave_F » Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:20 pm

http://www3.telus.net/shade/Rover/M1.jpg

Flew to Regina on Wednesday and just got back today from a 2100k road trip to Saskatchewan to pick up my "new" 1991 3 door x-mod, 300TDi with a R380 gearbox.

Anybody interested in a 109?

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Stuart...and yes it is a RHD. Took a little bit getting used to, but after 2100kms I'm getting used to it. Only issue is merging into oncoming traffic   Might install a long arm wolf mirror extension and if that doesn't work then I'll cut some windows in the side.

For the price I paid I couldn't pass it by even being a RHD.

The 109 is going up for sale...I drove it for the first time today and just can't believe the difference.

I was not overly concerned on appearance but more concerned with outward vis....
This was glass I had.. I would recommend something that is larger and opens for ventilation, it is hard to get something that looks good in the 3 door 110's.. But that's just my .02

Not the best angle in this pic, but you can see the window I put in my three door 110, it took up the whole panel. It was great for passengers. I put the screen you see over it as protection in heavy brush. Best investment ever.

Where did you find that window and how much?
A single large window like that is about the best I have seen so far!

I went to a custom coach maker, the guys who make the bodies for ambulances and buses and stuff, and had them custom make it to fit the panel. That way I could spec the exact size, amount of curve on the corners, and glass tint.

Not sure if there is a local coachbuilder where you are.

In the latest copy of LRW I found the coolest land rover windows.

www.landrover-panoramic.com

You can order them online, they ship with a template and all the needed bits.

Yes very nice...but for over $650. per window before shipping    I think I could get some custom made here for half that.

But thanks for the link anyways...more ideas to ponder.

It's really only when merging into oncoming traffic on an angle that is the problem. Picked up a 6" round convex that I have adapted to one of my 109 wing mirror arms and that seems to give me decent visibility.

Yeah, I would visit the scrapyards to see what you could find in roughly the right size that came off an RV or a trailer maybe.

No Scrap yards...I would like to either find a used rear window from a 5 door, or will get the measurements and have one made.

I want it to be the same height as the door window as I found a pic of one that I would like to emulate.

http://www3.telus.net/shade/Rover/110%20window.jpg

...not sure if I will do a matching one on the other RHD side or a cabinet setup that I can access from the outside.

sorry to hijack the post. Dave, What an in-transit permit looks like? does it have a expire date and/or destination information on it? I'll pick up my first rover very soon. is it an A to B permit? what if I take a detour during A to B? will I get fined if pulled by police? thanks

Well I can only speak for Saskatchewan as this is where my truck came from.

In Saskatchewan they issue a 7 day "In-Transit" permit for $30. This fully insures the vehicle providing you take the shortest route home, with no stopovers more than 24 hours, and it expires 24 hours after reaching your destination.

They also supplied me with a temporary "SK license".

I would check with whatever jurisdiction/province that the vehicle currently resides in for their rules, for as I found out they are all different.

Cheers,

Dave
