2005 Membership
Would like to sign up, but the 2005 application form is not posted yet.
Should I just use the 2004 one and correct the year?
Hmm, shades of Python there...

Ok. Got the form, filled it in.
Now, how do I get payment to you?
How do you "normally" get payment from international members?
I don't have a Canadian or US Dollar bank account so some kind of money transfer is obviously required. Here's some options I've considered along with pros/cons:
(1) Western Union. Pros: Easy for me as I can do it all on-line with my credit card. Cons: Hard for you as you have to physically pick the payment up. Expensive for me as charges will be close to 40% of the amount due. Ouch.
(2) Bank Money Order: Pros: Easy for you as the money just appears in your account. Cons: You have to tell me your bank account details. I have a bunch of paper work to do. Charges are unknown.
(3) Travellers Cheque: Pros: Just like cash. I buy a $50 (US) cheque, make it payable to Roverlanders and mail it. Cons: Not sure anyone will sell me a TC for such a small amount.
Some other partially formed ideas:
Fancy an envelope stuffed with used bills? (only kidding).
If you can think of a quick and easy way using a US bank, I'll be in Phoenix in about a month so I could do it from there.
Would any of your advertisers be willing to give you a cheque if I buy some non existent item from them by credit card?
Erm, that's it. I'm out of ideas.

I'm working with Peter Tebbutt on a web form and automated Paypal payment which accepts Visa, Mastercard, etc. but that won't be done for awhile.
In the meanwhile, if you want to Paypal $50 US (we always charge the equivalent of the exchange to cover postage increases, etc.) to [email protected], we can accept that as payment. Just make sure you put in the comments portion "Roverlanders Membership for <your name>".
thanks, Dave

Thanks to Peter Tebbutt helping with the form, I have just posted an online membership form so you can pay by Paypal, Visa or Mastercard.

Yes, Don, there is a service charge of 2.2%, as well as a transaction fee of approx. $.30USD per transaction. Paypal is down for maintenance as I write this so I might be out by a wee bit, but it works out to about $1.40USD per membership.
This is a very similar fee to typical credit card merchant costs for fairly large retail organizations, and lower than most banks give for the few transactions that we will have.
Dave
-------
Jan 14 - I checked exact fees. What I typed above was for a US account over $1000 monthly volume. What we will be apying is 2.9% and $.55CAD per transaction. So actually works out to $2.00CAD per canadian membership and a fw cents more for international memberships.

Good question. Yes, a free Paypal business account has been set up in the name of the Rover-Landers of BC. This allows payment from anyone who has a Paypal account, but also Paypal offers credit card payments for anyone whether they are Paypal members or not. You do not have to sign up with Paypal to use the service.
As far as them sending us cheques, they do not send the money by cheque, as a rule. They instead direct deposit to our account at our request. There is no cost for the direct deposits provided each transaction is more than $100 US. Thus we will wait until there are several memberships paid until Stuart moves the money to the Rover-Landers account.
