Island plant tour

#1 Post by Greg S » Sun Mar 21, 2010 10:23 pm

On the 27th we are hoping to have a plant tour at a place that makes slings and does destructive testing of lifting and towing hardware (like winch cables). More information to follow in the next day or so.

Anyone interested in coming along, chime in and I'll make sure you are kept up to date on time and location. (date may change too as details are worked out)

The deal is fianalized. Saturday 0930 in Chemainus. Meet in the parking lot of the Horseshoe Bay Inn at the corner of Henry Road and Chemainus Road at 0930 and we'll meet Wayne, the owner of Test Right Rigging, at his shop a bit later. It is only a very short way down the road. If you have a winch, tugger or other pulling device, bring it along and we can measure exactly how little you can really pull; 10,000 pound winch you say? Is it really? Any old or new winch line you want to offer up to break? This is a learning experience just for US!

We had a good tour and tried to absorb as much information as we could. Hopefully we will all be safer next time we have to do a winch or jerk recovery.
