Hi, my name is Eldon, and i usualy wheel with NCOAS when i have a truck. Recently I purchased a 1964 88, but not just any 88, this used to be my dads which he purchased in 68 wich he had till 1988 when he gave it away when we moved, recently i found the rover and bought it back. As have no experiance with these vehicle i decided to join your forum and share the build. Plans include paint, new springs, updated carb, new interior, winch, rocker gaurds, and 34-9-16 tsl swampers. First question i have is does anyone have any experiance with the selectable front hubs? I have never seen a rover with hub like this, each side has two metal tabs that you rotate 180 derees to lock the front hubs, also it doesnt have regular wheel studs, insead they are threaded into the drums? Anyway here she is, her name is jessica by the way (dont know where the name came from)

I have a set of them, I have them off the truck and can take pictures of the guts if you like... what is your question about them? I have no idea about the wheel studs, they are supposed to be screwed into the axle as far as I'm concerned.... or at least all three of my rovers have it that way...

Let me know if you want some pics of the front hubs, I also currently have a brake drum off of my 109 and can show you what a common setup is supposed to look like.

i was just wonder if any one else had those hubs, I asume the brakes are all the same. And the wheel studs i was Just wondering cause i had seen a diagram that showed like it had actual studs on the axle shaft like a ford or chev diff. thanx for the info.

I would re post your question in the Q & A technical section, it's has a lot more traffic and is meant for questions, this section is more for showing off your projects.... And I would definately ask before driving(not that she's quite there yet :wink: ) as the little screws that hold the brake drums on aren't meant to hold the wheels on!!!

Looks like so many of our projects when we brought them home. The studs on some of the early series I, II & IIa trucks were indeed screwed in. If they are screwing out of the hub its usually due to more resistance (rust) between the lug nut and stud than between the stud and hub (oil). It's quite common to see this happen.

There are 2 solutions that I know of: 1.) Screw them into the hub and do a small tack-weld to the back of the stud; 2.) Purchase the new style studs with a backing edge and teeth that pull into the hub.

The problem with solution 1 is that you could reduce the strength of the steel due to the heat of welding, not something you want to do on a hub or wheel nuts!!!!!

The challenge with solution 2 is you have to find a place to buy the studs (try Rover Park Boys in Edmonton) and you have to drill out the holes a little bit for them to fit. I put these in my series truck many years ago, using a little bit of locktite on them when installing. The only additional caution I'd give here is I ended up with a few studs that were shorter than others, so if you're offered more than one length, choose the longer length.

The front hubs were installed on many series rovers from 1950 to 1984 to reduce the rolling resistance and vibration while in high range. They are usually fairly trouble-free.

Good to have you aboard. Do you know Gerry Bolduc in PG there? He's also involved with NCOAS and has several Land Rovers.

well guys long time no forum but im back and jessica has parts on the way, I ordered her a new carb, distributor, wires, and fuel pump so next time im home we should have a progress photo or two and the build is on. :lol: :blob4: :thumbup:

Hubs are Dualmatics...i also have a set from one of my 1955 Series 1's.

Also comonly used on Jeeps. Do a google search on them as there is a nice step by step rebuild on them i found a whike back.

Very simple operation.

well the parts are finally here, just a few more things and we are good to start putting it together and hopefully hear her run this weekend.
