LR Series fever acting up again... help!

#1 Post by rstl99 » Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:13 pm

Hi all.
LR Series fever seems to be acting up again, for no reason at all.

About 12 years ago, I bought a basket case Series IIA and spent 2-3 years trying to fix it up and put it back together. Acquired a bunch of series parts, new and used. Eventually sold the whole thing to a guy who hauled it all away on a flatbed.

Then I bought a Land Cruiser BJ60, saw it start to rust and sold it. Then bought a 110 from Labrador, kept it two years, sold it to a guy from Tofino (blue truck, probably still out there somewhere). I still have a bunch of new parts I had bought for it, in boxes.

Last year, picked up a 92 diesel Land-Cruiser (LHD, 5 speed, from Europe), which I really enjoy.

I recently bought a country property adjacent to a series of trails and logging roads, and all of a sudden I'm thinking: wouldn't it be neat to have an old Series truck parked there, to go exploring the woods with? Even though my 80 Series TLC would be quite up to the job, there's something about owning a Series truck that has never quite let go of me. Maybe I'm masochistic who knows, or yearning for the smell of 80w90 on my hands? I suppose part of what's pulling me in this direction is that I'll be retiring in a couple of years, and figure it would help keep me busy to work on a Series rig (as if I don't have enough things to do as it is, maintaining three cars etc.!).

Anyway, thought I'd inquire with you guys to see if you have advice in treating Series fever!

Cheers,
--Robert

the blue rover is still blue - its a daily driver - my son has it - lives in Crofton on Van Isle - we are currently prepping a 300 tdi to replace the 2.5na

Hi Ross,
You must have bought the Blue 110 from the Tofino guy who bought it from me and drove it back to Tofino from Ottawa!
Glad to know it's still running! There was a lot of life left in that truck, very little or no rust on it, etc.
Kind of fun to think it started its life at one of the north-eastmost parts of Canada (Goose Bay Labrador) and ended up at one of the south-western most parts (Vancouver Island), all by road.
May it serve you and your son well! Indeed, a 300Tdi would be great in that truck. The 2.5na was one solid motor, but too underpowered for the hills I found, driving back from Goose Bay.
Cheers!

p.s. about the fever, it is subsiding... Though when a Series rover comes up for sale around me, it seems to flare up again... Maybe once I start taking my 80 series LC wheeling around my country place, the thought of going back to a series rover will subside. :)

to get over that Series fever just think of how every supposedly easy task is never easy.

:80inch:

Stupid brake jobs, brutal heater, thin firewall too cold or too hot, loud/noisy, always leaking, rattles like crazy...man I love my Series III now my fever is worse...sorry :)
