August weekend trips?

#1 Post by jefflondon » Wed Jul 29, 2009 11:46 am

Anyone intrested in doing a day or weekend trip in August?
I have the weekends of the 8 & 9 and 22 & 23 free. Something somewhat local? (2-3 hour to destination). The truck is probably up for a long highway drive however the driver might not be.......

Any thoughts/Intrest?

I'm hoping to do a trip to explore Treasure Mountain, which is accessed through Tulameen, and is about 30 km west of Lodestone. I've seen it on the map and always wondered what was up there. either it will be a dusty FSR or could be a challenge. If its not a challenge, we can always do some more exploring around the Lodestone end of the Whipsaw.

I was thinking the weekend of August 22/23rd. Anyone interested?

I was planning on making it a 2-nighter, but Tulameen is about an hour from the old Toll booth, so you could run up Saturday morning and we could arrange a meeting spot at, say 10 AM Saturday. Then you'd only have to make it a one night outing.

I made up a basic set of waypoints to view in Google Earth. If you right-click this link and download the file, you should be able to open it with Google Earth and see the area... http://www.roverlanders.bc.ca/waypoints ... untain.KML

Hi Dave,

London's eyes grew wide when I asked him " you wanna go to Treasure Mountain?"....

If you have no objections we will discuss the trip at the meeting on Wednesday? May get few more explorers along!
Do you have the old map with a X marked on it?

cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy, Jeff, Ray, and others,

Unfortunately I have miscalculated my schedule and we have commitments for the August 22/23rd weekend. Any chance we could hold this event on either the 15/16th or 29/30th weekend?

If not, we'll rearrange things at our end and still come out August 22/23rd, I expect.

cheers, Dave

If we are going we can only likely go on the 22/23 weekend as we have a bunch of other stuff going on on other weekends, but if you guys need to change it no problem, we can always catch you next time.

Hey Dave,

I need to book the dog Kennel (unless yours are staying at home, in which case I will take mine along) so I am trying to get organized.

Do we know details yet of where/when we will be meeting up?

Hi Ray,

Yes, we're bringing our dogs along.

Details...

Friday night meet at Granite City Campground: 49°30'13.08"N 120°40'39.29"W

We'll try and be there before dark ourselves.

If you're not able to come up on Friday night, meet at the Tulameen gas station on Saturday morning for a 10 AM departure: 49°32'43.25"N 120°45'31.47"W

I don't know if a group is leaving together from the coast. I'll leave that to Andy to organize...

cheers, Dave

We where just up at Granite City and it was great walked up to the cemetery and found the grave of Hattie McBride and did a little research on the gal...pretty interesting stuff. We tried in vain and not very hard to find Blakeburn, before we did the Whipsaw, but I have no idea where it is. Have a good trip u all.

We are going to go up early on Friday, around lunchtime, so the boys have time to do some fishing at the river next to Granite City.

We are all packed up and heading for Granite City. A little later than I wanted but I am on the local vol. fire dept and we had a call out this morning that delayed us, but we should still be there shortly after lunch to find a nice spot.

There was a huge lightning storm last night in the hills on the north side of Manning park, we could see it from our place along hwy 3, but the Min. of Forests website doesn't have any new fires listed this morning in the area where we are going, although the fire choppers have been buzzing over our house all day, so fingers crossed...

The forecast is for night time temps near freezing in the area over the weekend so bring your warm pj's.

So I cannot attend this weekend. Much to my supreme disapointment......

would you believe I have a wedding to attend? let me explain.

my GF's GF is getting married, and I was invited to the wedding, then i was uninvited (who does that??) then last week I was reinvited.

So if i EVER want to sleep in my bed again, I need to do this. but my heart and soul is in the woods with you guys.

Im so sorry to flake out like this, best of luck to you all and send Pics!!

That is pretty lame, Jeff...

Girlfriends come and go, but your Land Rover buddies will be there a long time after you lost track of the GF.

Does that mean you're coming, John? Do you still need tent poles?

I was waiting for that response.

Well, I'd really like to.....

Looks like it is going to be next month before you see my smiling face on the trail.

Nobody took me up on my offer to collect their surplus poles so yes, still looking.
