Ok so I buy my daughter a 1995 5 speed disco yesterday runs nice lots of power, starts stops all day no issues yesterday.
This morning I go out and to start her and no go, she turns over and almost fires but dose not start, here some info
3.9 engine 225,000 kms 5 speed manual
turn the key on dash lights come on (check eng,,bat, seat belt all light up and then go out after some time while motor is cranking)
I think that the fuel pump is working as I hear a humming coming from the rear of the truck.
Spark plug leads seem to look new?
Any help or ideas would be helpful.
Thank
Bernie

No start ...
Hi Bernie,
Great you are keeping the Land Rover status going through-out the family!
I wonder if its something you have done, maybe without realising it. Just too big of a coinsidence that it would happen out of the blue like that.
What did you do yesterday with it? Fiddle with any connections? Filled up with fuel? (did you use premium fuel?) Leave the lights on? ?
Probably something obvious. I would start with the battery, although it is cranking, if Discos dont have the amps in the battery, it just wont start.
I bet if its been parked up in the cold snap we had (-11) then that could kill off a cell or two .Try swapping the battery with another vehicle.
The dash lights as you describe sounds normal to me. If they all come on for a few seconds then all go out while trying to start, just the bulb check they do at every start up.
good luck, let us know what you find...
Andy

Thanks Andy
No playing with anything yesterday and yes we filled the truck with premium gas. Amber did fill it to the top and fuel came out of the overflow and leaked out so I asked her to park the truck passenger side on the curb last night as it looked like the hoses by the filler may be leaking.
I called the previous owner this afternoon and he told me that he had the same thing happen to him back when it started to get cold and he took the truck to his mechanic who said that he should change the ignition coil which he did not do. He had been plugging in the block heater evey night and had no problems starting in the mornings and the rest of the day. :?:
He recomended that I plug her in and try again, so I did. After about 5 hours of the truck being plugged in I tried starting her and she fired up after some cranking. Took a drive around town stopped in the drive turned her off and she started right up again. But now I have a check engine light on. So turned her off and plugged her in for the night and havin dinner.
Im thinking that I should change the dist. cap, rotor and coil also wondering if the starter is getting tired.
any other ideas welcomed
Thanks Bernie

hmmmm
first stick your tongue out the side of your mouth and then change the fuel filter as it may be full of water which freezes and restricts fuel in the cold
