Anyone know of a good diesel technician.

Does anyone know of a good diesel shop or technician in the lower mainland. I would like to have my 2.5 NA analyzed and have the injector pump serviced, I think it's running a little rich.

I have heard of Bosch mechanics tuning diesel pumps to perfection.

What do you mean by rich?? when and how much load???
A diesel only produces black smoke when over fueling for the amount of air in the cyl... it would be normal under high load or heavey throttle.
if it does it all the time and has slowly got worse check air filter, remove and inspect,if oil soaked replace imidiatly, don't go by the filter minder! also check the valve lash and exhaust for restriction...a damaged pipe or mufler causes restriction not letting the engine "breath" and will cause black smoke..
if that does not help, then take the truck to a diesel shop and have the pump/injectors checked on the engine.

Thanks, evrything you have listed I will check out. The truck has started producing more black smoke over the last month. The air intake is better than stock and with a clean K&N; the exhaust does have some small leaks that I'm going to deal with and I'm going to check the valves soon.

My main concern was the fact that it is burning more fuel and producing more black but I've also been fighting with a serious vacuum problem in the fuel tank that I can't be sure was there before. I'm wondering if the pump setting could be pumping more fuel than needed, plus I think I am leaking diesel from some of the lines in the engine bay. It's hard to tell what's diesel and what's oil.

My truck is running strong but I am at the point where getting an outside professional opinion and clean bill of health on the pump and injectors would help.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Any decent diesel shop. The pump and injectors are pretty common. Pull the injectors and check the spray patterns. The workshop manual gives the details. The main fueling adjustment is the one behind the pump between the engine and the pump.

And, yes, do the valve lash. It is quick and easy on these engines. About 30 minutes.
