Airspring questions

#1 Post by wifesp38 » Sun Nov 16, 2008 5:58 pm

What should the average cost be to replace all 4 air springs on a 97' Range Rover?? Bear in mind I don't have the springs so I would have to buy them. This leads me to my second question" What brand should I buy" i suspect mine will need attention in the near future. Thanks in advance.

I would like to run the air suspension if possible. I assume the parts you just ordered are the air bags?? I think my main problem is I am jumping to conclusions that my P38 needs airbags. It has been suggested to me I should obviously get her diagnosed rather than spend money on bags I don't need. I jumped the relay for the airpump (witch ran fine) but no up. Anyone want to come to White Rock for a BBQ and beers......???

If the bags on your truck have been there since new, I suspect they are due for a change.

More than likely. I would just like to confirm that before taking the plunge. I have jumped the airpump relay walked around Rover listening for leak but heard nothing. But I only let the pump run for maybe 3 mins. Will Rover go up even with a EAS fault. I wasn't sure if I had to clear the fault before running pump. That being said should I order the "Black box" EAS tool?

For the airbags, I changed my order to get the Gen III airbags which have extended lift.

As to the EAS computer stuff I will leave that to others.

Good call on the GenIII good bang for a few $$ more. Let me know how it goes. Who is installing these for you? Or are you doing it your self?

Yes its the Gen III that I have on my classic and I reprogramed the computer to be about 2" higher on the off roader setting.
take your car to Keith Robinson (He is probably the closest) and he will sort it out for you.

Hey guys

Jumping in late here, BUT I bought a set of Arnott Gen II Rears.

Within a month they both blew out (about 5 kms apart) on a HOT day in the middle of south faser way in abbotsford. I was sitting on my over sized tires for a hour until the tow truck came and hauled it to my house.

Quite the ride when they blow out.

Keep in mind I'm not hard on my p38.

Then I bought a set of brit-part and haven't had any problems. The finish quality isn't as good as land rovers BUT you get 4 for the price of 2.
It's pretty easy to change them out. I did it with the jack in the back of the truck flawlessly every time. I don't recommend it though, I hate crawling under a jacked up vehicle.

BTW Don is a awesome mechanic ... he knows my truck far far better than I ever will, good choice!

I did contact them about the problem (happened 6 months ago) and they said that if it was a defect they would refund me.
I just haven't gotten around to sending them back  I am a bit lazy like that. And they did say they would replace them because the metal rings slipped off which is why they lost pressure.

Thus I decided just to go with gen 1 oem, about $700 for a set of 4 (Land rover wants $525 PER BAG!) because I do drive long distances and could be too deep in snow to get pulled back to town to jack it back up and put yet another set in.

Well we got them installed, Don had a bit of fun installing them as a machined locating lug was a bit big and need filing to fit. He setup the High stetting with about 2" extra and a bit more in Standard mode, Hwy and access the same. The total cost of buying, shipping,GST and brokerage was just under $1400. Keep in mind this was the Gen III set and the Gen II would have saved almost $300. Didn't help that the dollar shrank to 80cents US either.

I will post a video of them operating as soon as I can.
