Do I really want half a boat?

#1 Post by Greg S » Wed Oct 15, 2008 9:00 pm

Next door neighbour brought his boat home today. I went to have a look and he offered to partner with me in it. It just needs a little reconstruction and I've had some experience with that. Hull and ribs look sound where I checked and he assures me the hull and the planks below the water line are all real good and it's just been re-caulked. It is certainly ugly though! A PO made a big square rear trunk cabin on her. That came off today with a chain saw. What is left is a 41 foot salmon troller. It is quite a famous boat actually. It was John Daly's boat, More Kelp, from the book Fishing With John. The book was nominated for a Governor Generals Award in 1989. Nice lines both above and below and with a 5 cylinder Gardner engine.

I guess I just have to decide whether I want my wife to keep me around or not.

Greg, I think it is time to find a new neighbour as this one obviously only wants you for your money.... half-a-boat, yeah, that's like having half-an-idea... or half a headache... if he insists on the halfers idea be sure to cut the hull lengthwise as it makes a far nicer planter that way!
