Whipsaw return ....

#1 Post by ANDYD » Sun Sep 14, 2008 4:53 pm

Hi Guys,
Well, we are home safe and sound, just wanted to thank Pete, Shawn, John and Dave for the great teamwork in getting my RRC started on the Whipsaw trail.
Our challenge was how to get a Automatic started with a starter motor than had literaly cracked in half!
With a good positive attitude and a lot of luck we were able to wedge a piece of wood behind the end of the starter, inside the flywheel housing thus holding the cracked starter motor together to give it one last crank.
To our joy the engine started up and I didn't turn it off again until I was sitting in my drive 7hrs later!
Thanks again, it was a beautiful weekend. No bugs, very little dust, lots of warm sunshine and we returned with several bags of garbage picked up along the trail....
cheers :D

Glad to hear you and Bailey made it home safe and sound.

Now what I really want to know is have you tried to start it again...?

Starter ...

Thanks Dave,

Believe it or not ..... I tried the starter this afternoon and it cranked and started first try
Didn't sound quite right, but that piece of wood must still be in place or it wouldn't of started at all... pretty amazing!

By the way, did you resolve your headlight issue? I hope you didn't have to hold the high beam switch all the way home!

cheers,
Andy

Yeah after some wigglin' and jigglin' it seemed to stay on again...

I'm a string believer of faith healing when it comes to land rovers....although I will need to have to figure this Lucas mystery out sooner than later.

Well quite the adventure guys, good to get under a car again and tinker to the point of satisfaction....despite the bad start, rain and cold, the morning was great and the road interesting... got a good picture of the big bump that seemed to have caused all the damage to Andy's truck (and others) so we'll have to frame that one. I'll look forward to completing that trail another time! Thanks guys for the great time and nice to meet a couple other members.

Just open your web browser to your photo site, then copy the address line and then paste it in the message.

If you have a user name and password we'll need that as well.

Waiting anxiously....

Cheers,

DAve

Yes, email the photos to Bill. His email is [email protected] . But best to wait till next week as he's down here in Moab at the National Rally and not checking his email every day, so you'll likely fill up his mailbox in no time.

As far as resolution goes, a JPG image at a minimum of 1024 pixels is preferred. Anything smaller than that, we can't use for the newsletter later on...

cheers, Dave

O'Doul and I just returned from our 2nd trip up the north end of the Whipsaw this week. We drove the trail from Lodestone to falcon hill and replaced all 5 respect your grassland signs as they have been vandalized. We cut the Bronco up a little bit to get it ready for removal. We chased a bear; well O’Doul chased the bear away while I worked. We installed new Lodestone direction signs as they were also removed and cleaned the out house with bleach. Also we did some painting and cleaned the 4wdbc sign. We also packed out a garbage bag full of beer cans. There has been a fair bit of mud bogging in the usual places. The weather was hot and sunny.

Whipsaw...

Great job Shawn,

How did the Bronco chopping go? Did it slice and dice fairly easily or it it a bigger job than we thought?

Cheers Andy :D

PS. A real survivor man would of wrestled the bear himself instead of sending poor old Odoul to chase him off!

Chopping up the bronco is a big job. It has been rolled on it's roof and dragged up the hill 50' by persons and reasons uknown. I was able to cut up the frame but it needs more people to roll it over and cut up the body and a couple of winches to pull it apart.
