New Toy ...
Hey,
Looks like a lot of fun, what are your plans for it?
Interesting that they use a black cross instead of the red cross?
Maybe it makes less of a target in black!
cheers,
Andy

its pretty fun to drive. not bad offroad but it has very little articulation but it makes up for it by being a very light vehicle.
it was a red cross but someone got to it with a can of spray before i got it.
plans for it, well, i am going to drive it for a while to find all the bugs and then do a little work to it.
future plans:
-12v converter as it runs on 24v so accessories and radio are a pain to setup
-new paint (probably semiflat black and rhinoline inside)
-dropping rear tailgate
-custom hardtop ( looking for a series hardtop if anyone has one)
-2" body lift
-rock sliders and protection
-winch
-possible turbo diesel conversion as it has a VW 1.7 l gas in it at the moment
-new seats
but that is all later, it is now my daily driver so just making sure everything is good. definately needs tires as the military michelins are a pig on the highway and loud, really loud..

thanks guys,
its a pretty fun ride.
they are amost all in private hands now, i think only a few left at the gov to auction off.
not bad on the highway except for the noise. easy 110km (loud) pushingit at 120-130 very loud. its a 4 speed gearbox. i need to change the tires for the highway and get a quieter muffler, that would change alot.

they have a very low range 1st gear which can be selected in 4x4 mode.
the gearbox can select 2wd or 4x4 and it also comes stock with a rear cable locker. so pretty good for stock options.
there is notothing available for suspension mods. the Iltis has front and rear transverse leaf springs. only option for more articulation is to completely modify it and go with coilovers which are not really worth it for what you get. i find it is actually more fun to go offroad this way, even in a rover as it makes things more interesting, and its fun to get stuck sometimes. if your truck can crawl over anything without an issue it gets kinda boring dont you think.
