A couple of follow up points on the buggered 200tdi locked tread:
- First I'd like to thank Brent (the guy I bought the 200tdi from). After seeing the inside of the engine he very kindly offered to take the engine back and pay for any related expenses or give me a large discount on what I had paid for the engine. He didn't have to do this he is a great guy so he did. I took him up on the discounted price.
- Secondly, I contacted the Canadian dealer that originally sold the engine and he stated that it was a good original engine with less than 40K miles on it and it was not a rebuild. This is not likely the truth based on these clues; some of the mains and big end bearings showed some copper, camshaft appears to have been reground, liberal use of non-original silicon gasket all over the place, cylinders have been honed (not very well in the case of one), the cam timing gear has damage from being dropped at some point, and the bolts that hold the ladder frame from the flywheel housing side where missing.
On a related note the dealer in question seems to have a thing for selling trucks without air cleaners, as a result the compressor blades in the turbo are damaged. In future I will not be touching any engines that come from the earth's largest ocean custom landrovers or his uk supplier the large multi lobed internal organ ridge 4x4 because one or both of them are not to be trusted.

That is the strangest thing.HeadDamage wrote:....seems to have a thing for selling trucks without air cleaners....
It reminds me of binch in Edmonchuck. His 110 was restored at a local shop up there. Around a year or so after he got the truck finished he went to change the fuel filter. He found an empty canister. The filter media was missing. It had been removed at some point... How do you make sense of that?
