Nissan Patrol

One of my work colleagues has been building up a Nissan Patrol 60-series -- think 1960s-era. He recently finished most of it up and plated it for road use so I had a chance to see it when he brought it to the office this week.
It's amazing how much similarity there is between some of the early off roaders. It looks a lot like a product improved version of the series 2. You can look over the vehicle and see where they took the popular designs of the day (FJ, Land Rover...) and made them just a little better. Synchro gearbox, for example. Latches for the front windscreen instead of large bolts and wing nuts. A much simpler exhaust layout, etc.
If anyone is looking for a really rare project, you might want to give them a look. With a strong caveat, though: parts are much, much more difficult to come by. Took him a year to find the right spacer for his brake cylinders from a guy who had some in Chile. Apparently no / few surviving examples exist outside of Australia & Japan.
Neat little truck. If you see one bombing around downtown -- it's a red SWB with the hard top removed -- give him a wave. Much respect for the dedication it would have taken to rebuild what must be nearly a one-off here in Canada.
