Trailer with a 76 SWB

I have a 76 SWB S III with the LR/european round trailer plug. I naively thought this was the same as the NA round plug and bought an adaptor to get setup to tow my little 4 pin utility trailer. I was wrong.
Has anyone got advice on replacing the LR round trailer plug with a NA one, or should i just buy an expensive import adaptor to get from LR to something I can use in NA.
Thanks in advance

If you are connecting to a North american trailer, you need to change the plug and install a trailer wiring converter. The trailer wiring in Europe is different than in North America. You can pickup all the parts at any auto parts store and install them.

I just went through the
exact same thing... the plug on my '63 109 was a round 5 pin and my trailer is a flat 4. I picked up the parts I needed from etrailer.com and they were cheap/fast. The people there were really helpful too. They even posted my question in their Q&A section:
Adapter for 5-Pin Round Trailer Connection to 4-Way Trailer Connection

Also try princessauto.com site as we have some round plugs in there, not sure if they will fit or not
