Blinking Odometer

Greetings all :D from a newby.
I recently purchased a 2004 Discovery II and very pleased overall. However it seems to suffer from a common fault of the BCM and BCU being out of sync, which causes the odometer to blink and door locks to malfunction.
Lots of Google research points to the need for the BCM and BCU to be reset. I'm located in Penticton and the Kelowna L.R. Dealership don't know much about this problem and suggest replacing parts and furthermore their programming computer is dead and a replacement is months away, I'm told.
Apparently I can buy a NanoCom from Cyprus which will reset most computer controlled modules. Alternatively I don't relish a trip to the Vancouver Dealership who will most likely see $$$$ of parts replacement.
I seek any suggestions others may have.
Cheers, Sandi Ross
