I'm not there yet but I'm getting closer to some big shipping costs from the UK on possibly a few things from a few different vendors.
Whats the best way to work on setting up some shared container space into Vancouver? Or possibly Washington if that wouldn't ding me for import duties twice. I've heard Vancouver is an expensive port to ship into but I'd imagine extra import duties would erase any savings by picking up parts in Washington.

I'd also be concerned about the timelines on the other side of the pond with a couple of different bits being made to order and uncertainty over the whole shipment waiting somewhere for one piece to be completed (storage fees? etc.) and how'd one go about managing the collection and legwork of getting all the bits together for shipping.

Overall I'm just totally in the dark about how to go about setting this up

It SHOULD be cheaper to ship via the short sea route (Liverpool or Southampton to Montreal) and then on to rail across Canada than it is to ship to Vancouver (via the Panama Canal)

It was when we shipped a 40' sea can (House contents + Defender) from the UK in November 2013.

Don't forget to consider Marine Insurance too.

As for getting everything together - what are you shipping? You probably need to deal with a haulier in the UK that does Groupage - ie you get everything delivered to their depot and they do the rest.

Checks suitability of original packaging (critical).
Repacks/crates as necessary.
Cost competitive.

Have not used him for sea-cans, but I'm sure he can advise. You may find that crated is all you need. Some of the brokers do shared containers into Vancouver.

I'll definitely be getting a coil chassis for my 109 and possibly a fresh made bulkhead. If I was getting shared container space I'd maybe look through the UK sites for other parts. I'm considering new sideframes as well but it seems roversnorth has similar pricing to the UK sites I have looked at and in this case shipping from them wasn't terribly bad

Contact Bill Inch from the ALRE club (he might be a user here also??), he might be able to help you out.. I brought my TDI in with his help and was very reasonable and no effort of my end.
