Congrats on the purchase! I saw the ambulance parked here in the museum Chilliwack all summer. I was hoping it would be go to someone local with true passion.

I am sure you are the coolest Dad in Victoria right now but you failed to mention how excited your bride is, the carport may have to be enclosed :(

Stacey was consulted on the purchase and gave the green light so, so far I'm not sleeping in the back of the ambulance.....yet :lol:

Looking at that first photo on my crappy phone thinking "the ambulance version of the 2a has a lot more dials than the regular version... must be a military thing...." :oops:

Nice one Matt,
Did it come with any service history? Interested to know where it served its time and how many battles it survived?
My friend in the British Army told me they are quite scarce now because when they took them out of service a lot of them were used as "targets" on the Tank and missile ranges. I guess that big red cross was good for target finding!

Hello from the Antipodes.
Congratulations on a nice acquisition - should give you a lot of satisfaction.
Not sure if this is of interest but you may find the visual similarities and differences between your truck and the Australian equivalent to be so.
These next few photos of an ex-military S2A "blood box" were taken at a historical military vehicle field meet near Canungra in Queensland a few years back. Canungra is the location of the Australian Army's jungle warfare training centre which saw thousands of Australian and American troops pass through on the way to fighting and ultimately defeating the Japanese in New Guinea and the Islands right back to Okinawa.

This particular truck, as the sign on the front says, was a lucky find for an AULRO membera few weeks earlier sitting in a farm paddock. It may or may not have seen active use in Vietnam, as this was the model that was being used over there in the late 60's until the troops were finally withdrawn around 1972.

Why is it so popular to hack into the wheel arches on Military Land Rovers down in Australia?
Is it an Aussie attempt to make their Series Landies into lightweights on the cheap? ;)

Hello again. Don't want to hijack Matt's thread.
That's the way the Army specified the Series 2 and 3 trucks and was standard across the fleet of 88" and 109" vehicles. Presumably to limit the chance of fallen timber or other obstacles fouling the guards and to give easier access to under the vehicles under field conditions. The later Perenties came with the standard wheel arches but like the earlier Series trucks with raised suspensions.

really glad you guys like the ambulance. we had many many years enjoyment out of it. we'll miss it terribly but are very glad it went to a good home! just got the series 1 brought down from the kootenays and im chomping at the bit to head out for a sunday drive.
