Camping in the Rockies

Hi Guys,
I'm driving to Ontario from the Island this Sunday for my wedding, and I'll be doing the drive with my Cousin who's never seen the Rockies before. We'll have three dogs in tow and was hoping to stop over in the Rockies for at least a night but I have an aversion to Provincial/Federal campgrounds owing to the fact that my dogs are nuts.
Does anyone know of any "off the beaten path" campsites that would be convenient to stop at as part of a Trans Canada Highway trip? They don't have to have facilities to speak of - a lake or river and a quiet place to poo (for the dogs of course.. ahem!) would do just fine...
Cheers,
Dave
