New to the forum, thanks for the add. Looking for a Defender 90, saw a 98 TD5 for sale at a dealer. Any advice when/if I go look at it? I have done some research online just looking for that 'red flag' moment! Lol

Cheers
Stuart.

Frame, bulkhead, doors, look for rust. Especially the frame, take a screw driver and poke the frame all over the place, in particular the rear cross member and the outriggers. If you don't know what the cross member and the outriggers are, do some more searching and reading.

Everything else is fixable, and will likely require fixing at some point.

As stated, look hard for rust. With the aluminum outer panel, you can get lulled into a sense of security... No different than any other old vehicle. Look over everything. It should pull up easily to 110 km/h and be more or less smoke free. Gear changes should be smooth. Brakes should be able to lock up.

There's black chequer pate across the outside of the rear cross member. HUGE RED FLAG!! I would be willing to bet it's hiding some pretty ugly rust. If the cross member needs replacing, it's a couple grand....

Not sure if this quote from this other thread is the same truck, but if so, you might want to check with Crs.

Ya that is the one. They want $28000 for it... Kind of sketchy, I emailed regarding the price, and now they email me everyday saying they will give me a "SILLY" deal..

At that price, I would keep looking. With patience, you should find something good for closer to $20k. For $30k, I would expect to see a lot of restoration.

Here is a URL to let you see all Defender Kijiji ads in Canada.

No, the Kia one wasn't the one I saw.

The one I saw was in Richmond.

PM if you need details.
