sure a lot of theatre here and photo ops for government officials . in my opinion the ' crusher operator ' just completed ' crushing a vehicle course 101 ' . these minis are well built so it seems based on the time to destroy it . Gerry B

Hmm. Stolen Mini with a doggy VIN? How about returning it to its rightful owner, rather than smashing it?

I like this quote:
"Foreign sellers were defrauding American consumers who thought they were purchasing a vintage car," said Nancy Lewis, associate administrator at the U.S. Department of Transportation, "when in fact they were purchasing a potentially unsafe car."
I'm 110% certain that the buyer knew EXACTLY what he/she was getting and had been involved in the process themselves.
It won't be a stolen Mini. It will just be an inept attempt at the VIN-change.
The LHD/RHD thing is funny though - aren't Minis one of the easiest thing to convert?
As for the "when in fact they were purchasing a potentially unsafe car." that's just American BS, although ANY car is probably unsafe in the hands of American drivers....
