#1 Post by pragsy » Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:18 pm

Any plans for a club run in Feb? I might actually be able t get out. It's pretty mild. Fossil Beach? Sunrise Lake?

Nice, Vedder Mountain is a great place for a fun day of off-roading, unfortunately I cant make it this Sunday but would be interested in how the conditions are, if you could give us an update afterwards.
With all this rain its going to be slick for sure, lots of mud too....
There was a lot of talk about putting a gate up on Vedder due to all the ilegal dumping .... but not sure if it ever happened!

Could be up for next weekend.

I've removed the rear anti-roll bar (as I pulled a ball joint out on one end on the Founders weekend run! - should have taken it off previously....), changed the axle and diff oils and greased my nipples this weekend, so could do with a 'run' as an excuse not to do the gearbox oil and oil/filters service next weekend!

Sunday Feb 15th Club Run - Feb 14th is for "HER" and Feb 15th is for "YOU"....

What - a fun day off road run into the Beautiful local mountains
Where - in the Chehalis Lake / Hemlock Valley area - lunch & campfire will be "somewhere along the way"
When - meeting at the Subway Restaurant on Highway 7, Mission (34963 Lougheed highway) at 9am, grab some breakfast and a take out lunch - There is a gas station (Co-Op) that does Petrol and Diesel next to the Subway. Fuel up first when arriving, departing at 9.30am sharp. Back on the highway around 4.30pm. Google Link - http://goo.gl/maps/XNnzk
Why - Fresh mountain air, the adventure, beautiful scenery & to have fun!
What Else - bring along your basic recovery equipment, shovel, boots etc ... the forecast is showing sun right now 8) but come prepared with lots of warm clothing as weather can change fast up there! Not expecting snow but we may find pockets of snow here and there. Note - expect the trail to be a little overgrown (first time through for this year) so a little BC pin striping along the way. We may have to cut a few trees along the way if they are accross the road.
Also i'm sure the recent rains may have left is with some washouts, cross ditches, short rocky sections etc ....

Do these plans include a run down to Fossil?
I am allergic to that place.

darn, i wont be able to make it on the 15th.

anyways, the vedder run was good, the trails werent too bad but they were a bit muddy and it was a bit slippery. i did get a bit of damage and also blew a tire but it was still a fun day!

I'd love to join in, but.. 'er indoors thinks it might be a bit long of a day out for her, AND the Disco is still untested on normal roads so I'm not sure about her reliability on a trail.., I could take the LR2 but that still has stock tires on it.

We might tag along to breakfast though just to say hello and have a look at the *real* off road machines.

baby steps!

Andy, are we expecting the ride to be rougher than the January run? I need to service my universal joints before doing anything rougher than last time.

Hi Alex,

The first half of the loop has similar terrain to the Jan run, the 2nd half is still unknown as we were stopped by snow on last years attempt.....

Unless your UJ is falling apart or really loose I wouldn't worry too much, it's just a local run.

If you really need new UJ's you can pick them up at Lordco and have them changed in a couple of hours.

Cheers,
Andy

Looks like I will be good to go... If I can get the thing started (battery is dead as I haven't run it for a couple of months)... Son number two will be with me on his first trip!

Looking like a good group ready for an adventure!

The forecast is currently excellent, sunny with a few clouds. Should be some amazing views from the ridge!

See you all for breakfast ....

Cheers, Andy

PS - David, tell Bill he only has "One Life" so he should "Live it" ...... he can sleep in when he's in his eighties lol

Post trip report ......

A dozen clean Land Rovers set out on what should of been a routine loop run around of a local mountain, but it turned into something that was far from routine! Mother Nature had a few surprizes lined up for us such a 6ft deep mud slide, bottomless sink holes, fallen trees & stumps to scramble over and a rock slide that eventually had us beat and turned us around!
Everyone had a chance to get their recovery gear muddy and we barely cleared the last obstacle as darkness fell on us!

But it was a day full of fun and adventure, the sun shined down on us as promised and we all returned safely..... although a little late!

Thanks to everyone who came out,
Cheers,
Andy

The boys and myself had a blast! They wouldn't stop talking about the trip this morning. Then they wanted to know when the next one is... I think a have a couple of nascent enthusiasts here.

We all had a lot of fun :). Thanks to everyone that came and made it that way!
