what the heck is that? (canvas top question)

I was going to put the canvas on last night but decided to wait one more day as there is a bit of hardware missing.. sadly it rained this morning so a damp drive to work for me.
When i stretched the canvas out there were a few peculiar things on it. Maybe it's an ex mod type?
Anyway it is Khaki/green has no side windows, just a rear one, and in the side.. behind the door (88 inch) there is a peculiar "tube" that looks like an elephant's trunk, tucked up into a pocket, then behind that a flap covering a 3/4 inch hole.. almost like a vent.
any ideas? fitting for a small periscope? dog dish filling access?
