Tire fit

I have been looking for tire for my stock Series rims.
Unable to find affordable (yet) 235/85/16
I found some nice 265 70 16s free. About the same diameter as what I wanted. are these too wide?

Yes 235x85x16 are a little hard to find in used. Lots of new ones around though. That is about the same size as 7.50x16 Land Rover fitted to many old Rovers.
The widest tires I have seen run on a old series rover are 255x85x16 and they rub a lot when turning tight corners. However they look great. So I would say that 265 x 70x16s would work but you may need 40 acres to turn around. (Just like that old song).
