I'm thinking of picking up a Diesel engine compression tester. I will need it mainly for the Landrover 2.5NA and 200TDI.

I have olny done internet seaches so far but I thought I would ask for opinions and experiences before purchasing as most seem to be pricey compared to petrol testers.

Thanks for that.

After reading this I found a Snap-on diesel compression tester on e-bay so I think I'll go that route, much cheaper then getting a tester from the UK. It took reading your description twice but making the adaptor doesn't sound too difficult. I think I'll do a search for a Snap-on adaptor first though as their UK site listed some type of adaptor and I never seem to have enough time to get all my projects done as it is.

You can buy any kind of adapter you might need from a Snap on dealer or if you want to save some money you can get them on line @

The big question seems to be which one. I checked the UK site as well but the only reference to LR is in their $300+ injector adapter set. Ouch.

I guess I'll have to contact Snap-on and see if they can help.

You could call Art @ UK Trek & Traction Parts Ltd.

I know he uses snap-on compression gauge and he can tell you what attachment you need for a 2.5 land rover diesel.

Thanks to the web and Beru's online glow plug cataloque I have found out some info so I thought I would post what I've found so far.

Land Rover glow plugs are M12 x 1.25 threads, this is not too uncommon and the Snap-on adaptor M3576 should work for the 2.5NA. This is the same adaptor for some VW, Beemer, and Mercedes.

Now the fun part, the seal angle, reach and length for the 2.5NA are the same or similer enough to the above listed cars. However the 200TDI and 300TDI use a 90 degree seal angle, the only engine that does, and the glow plugs are longer than the above.

I'll have to pull the 200TDI's plugs and see how diferent they realy are in length, maybe I can just turn down one of the above adaptors to a 90 degree seal.

I just drilled out an old glow plug and then turned down an adaptor for something else and press fit & locktighted them together. Works great.
