This was sent into the club email, looks like the Island maybe getting a new Land Rover!
I have suggested that he registered onto this forum and hopefully he will post up soon

Hello Rover Club,

How are you guys? I’ve got something pretty special I found in France this past year and I’ve just unstuffed it from it’s shipping crate… As you can see for the picture bellow it’s a Camel Trophy Disco, factory authenticated and crazy amazing. It’s a 200TDi and runs like a top, it was used on the ’93 CT in Malaysia as support vehicle and is one of the most complete examples I’ve ever seen. As I type this I’m finally on the Ferry over to Victoria and I’m in need of a little advice…

First off I need to get her registered here in BC. I did a mechanical inspection at the port and it needs a few basic things fixed up, there’s a bit of body damage as ever camel has but there's a bit too much for BC, the passage door won’t open without interference from the fender so that needs a bit of body work (absolutely no paint as it’s still original). Then there’s some minor electrical like running lights and backup lights that need to be done and a little mechanical, steering box is leaking and both font wheel baring have too much play (you would too if you circumnavigated Malaysia…).

So now for the questions, do you guys have a body shop that you trust, this thing is one of only a handful of original paint and body Camels around so it’s got to be good enough to satisfy BC but no more. Second, good LR mechanic that’s not the dealer? The ’93 Disco is more like a Defender than a NAS D1 so someone with that kind of knowledge and experience would be great. Lastly, I’d love to come meet up with you guys at some point, I live and work in Los Angles but I spend some of the summer out here so I’d love to come hang out.

Thank in advance for the help, I truly appreciate it and I hope to be able to meet up with your group at some point!

Stephen

Hi Stephen.

Where are you going to be headquartered on the 'Island"? I can give you advice for the Duncan area (about 1 hr north of Victoria) but I don't know businesses well enough to recommend in the Victoria area. I can also give recommendations in the Nanaimo area by consulting with a close contact there. (In the business.) I have good contacts in the bodyshop area and know a couple good mechanical shops that can do work on them.

That being said, is this getting to Stephen? I ask because it was posted by Andy.

Hi Stephen,

I have a good bodywork guy up here in Parksville/Qualicum - he owns an older series land rover so appreciates the brand.

Welcome to the island and let me know if you're up in the area.

Hello all!

So sorry to drop off the face of the earth, I was called away from Canada for much longer than I anticipated. Anyway, I'm heading back towards the end of this month and plan on getting everything I need done to the Camel to make it ready to register in BC.

I'm thinking that I will actually be bringing the truck back to the Vancouver area so I imagine that will open up the options of who and where I can take it to get the basic mechanical done and the small amount of body "straightening" that are needed to pass the inspection.

So, I'll reframe my question. Were do you get your vintage land rovers worked on? The Camel is basically a 1993 Rang Rover Classic so it's not too exotic and I will have all the parts needed to fix what's broken, just need someone to do the work and deal with getting the front fender out of the way of the front door.

Again, thanks for all your help. It would be great to meet some of you when I'm up. I'll be in VC from June 27th to July 4th if anyone wants to get a beer...

What exactly needs straightening? If its just the body work, I'd leave it! Land Rovers are better for it. They say it gives it character or something along those lines.

I agree,

Unfortunately the folks doing the mechanical inspection don't... It interferes with the opening of the passage door and I guess that's enough to keep it from being registrable. All the other little bumps and scrapes are staying for sure.

Hi Steve,

There are two automotive shops that work mainly on Land Rovers in North Vancouver, I dont believe they do a lot of body work repairs but they will have a nearby body shop that they use and recommend, give them a call and have a chat ...

Alistar at Hesp Automotive North Vancouver, BC 604.986.4377 www.hespautomotive.com
Don at Rovalution Automotive North Vancouver, BC 604.985.6317 www.rovalution.ca

Hope you can join us for a run over the summer,

Cheers,
Andy
