The Rover-Landers of BC

So my girlfriend was driving to work today in her 01 disco and all of a sudden she said the vehicle jerked pretty hard ( she said like some one hit her from behind) and then shutdown, luckily she was able to power arm the vehicle to the side of the hwy. when I arrived I tried to start the vehicle, it would turn but not catch. When I looked at the dash the manual and sport mode lights were flashing. When we looked in the manual it said it was an electrical fault in the auto gearbox and to take it to a qualified assistant urgently. We had to get it towed home. Is there anyone that has had that problem? Would it be possible to fix it without going to the dealership? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem occur with my D2 - went into "limp" mode - lights on the dash flashing, wouldn't shift into overdrive, ran but very under-powered. In my case it turned-out to be a very dead battery... might not be your problem but it is worth checking.
