4.0 D2 engine question

I recently acquired a complete but disassembled circa 2002 Discovery 2 4.0 V8 motor. I was told that there was a slipped sleeve. I am wondering if there is any point keeping the block or should I just take it to the scrappers for the aluminum value? From what I have read re-sleeving these particular engines is expensive and often unsuccessful. Other than a boat anchor or a super heavy-duty paper weight is there really any point keeping this block?
Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob,
Installing top hat liners into the RV8 block is a proven & reliable fix for a slipped liner, don't know what you've been reading but it's wrong. If the block is stripped then you could send it to the Lordco Langley machine shop, they can hot pressure test for a slipped/leaking liner. They have recently refurbished a block for my D2's 4.6 build, did a good job for reasonable money.

Hi Andy
Thanks for your insight. Most of my research has been on Landrover forum or the discoweb... most don't speak about a very good prognosis for a slipped sleeve on a 4.0 but some recommend that the Tophat liner is the way to go. I appreciate hearing about some local experience. Might keep the brick as spares for my D2 which so far hasn't slipped (knock on wood).
Cheers, Rob

I have a freshly top hatted sleeved block but have yet to put it together but would be willing to part with it.
