Importing Defenders from Germany

Hey Folks...
Has anyone on the RL Forums imported a 15 year old Defender from Germany or the UK?
I assume if a 15 yr old truck can be imported from the UK, then why not Germany?
There seems to be an abundance of 15 year old LHD Defenders for sale in Germany, so why not??
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be interested in the answers. LHD and metric make them more desirable. I did read the UK had some of the best used car prices in th EU. Also, as Defenders rust/corrode, what about checking with a country without nasty, salty winters like Spain or Portugal?

I imported a late series 3 from Switzerland and it was no problem at all (15 year rule applied, typical RIV and inspection process, had to explain to ICBC the non-compliant VIN). I would highly recommend Switzerland, LHD, the vehicles are highly scrutinized for roadworthiness on a regular basis and mine came with it's annual inspection report history (something like aircare and a mechanical inspection) so I could verify the mileage and service history. I was very pleased with the condition of the truck.
Cheers, Rob

If you are prepared in dropping a big bag of cash and a headach of problems, then do it! Now a days there are manny defenders for sale on craigslist and they are fairly cheap.
I imported a view defenders, Netherlands and Germany. It was easy but shipping was expensive. The last one i imported 3 months ago and it was a real pain in the ass. Even when you have all the right papers ICBC i really hesitant of giving you a licence plate. They will check more then they should be. The reason why. There are a lot of defenders coming into BC now a days with VIN swaps rebuild etc. ICBC is aware of this and they are really to make it tough for you to import one. Maybe i was just not lucky but i see a change with the difficulty of getting a defender in BC. So it was my last one for now.
My tip for you buy one that is already in the Country. Check it out and buy it.
The only reason for me to buy one over seas would be, to buy a complete rebuild one. Otherwise you are number xxx rust bucket!
