Fuel Injection for old Rovers

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to convince a fuel injection kit manufacturer to produce a kit as a replacement for the Weber 34 ICH carb. This would be a complete kit with everything required to swap the weber (or solex or zenith) to a single throttle body injection with closed loop fuel control with oxygen sensor. The manufacturer is making kits to convert carbed motorcycles. His website is here: http://www.ecotrons.com/400cc_to_800cc_ ... I_kit.html

This is not endorsement. I have not tried his equipment. He has some following among the Suzuki DR650 crowd. The size of the throttle bodies is not far off from the Rover carbs.

Price tag would be about $600.

Any interest?

Jake

if you want to put fuel injection on an old Rover the easiest system to use would be off an 88 or 89 chevy cavalier ( the older boxy ones )

my Friend Dan converted a carbed 20R toyota engine with this setup and aside from needing an adapter fabricated for the throttle body ( 3/4" aluminum plate drilled and tapped ) and converting the distributor to electronic ignition ( used parts from a later model toy reluctor wheel/ pickup and removed the advance plate/ diaphragm ) it was simple wiring ( stripped the harness/ECU/TBI from a wrecked Cavalier ) and a Holley electric fuel pump ( 15 psi IIRC )

the 87 cavalier doesn't even use an oxygen sensor ( open loop ) so that would be even easier but obviously not as efficient

Here is the reply:

Jake,

I can provide an EFI kit with 42mm TB, and you do the TB adapter.

I can provide an Hall sensor and 2 magnets for you to install
somewhere at the flywheel, as the pickup. one pulse every 180 degree,
for 4 cylinders.

You will keep the ignition system, assuming that is a break point style.

It is a DIY project for you then. I will help you on the tuning.

The EFI kit will be $799 for you.

thanks, Matt
