BCJC Annual Charity Toy Run Event

#1 Post by Russ » Tue Oct 16, 2012 9:28 am

Hello Roverlanders,

My name is Russ and I work with Land Rover of Richmond. First, let me personally thank you for the job you did with the Wheels event for our clients. Two of mine were there (Kevin in the LR2, and Rod in the LR4), and both were extremely impressed with what their vehicles were able to handle..... I love newbs. lol

While I am a Land Rover sales person, I happen to also be very involved in bcjeepclub.ca and we always run a charity event at Sasquatch/Hale which benefits the Lower Mainland Christmass Bureau. Last year we raised about $1000 between our 50/50 draw, raffle, and bbq (sponsors of prizes included Backroad Map Books, Lowriders, NSOR, Trailskinz, etc.), and we filled a 5x9 enclosed Uhaul with gifts for the less fortunate out there.

This year we are trying to make it even more successful and have brought a few more sponsors on board, plus we wanted to find another local club who are known for having responsible wheelers maybe join in the fun.

The day is not only a meetup at the Sasquatch. We also double it as a day to get fresh faces with little-to-no experience in wheeling out for a day of fun. After sasquatch, we run out to the hatchery where we help the newbs learn about airing down, different parts of their trucks, and the Tread Lightly movement.

We then head down to Hale (which I'll admit takes a while with the amount of people there), where we have a bbq by donation which also goes towards the donation for the kids.

I would really like to include you guys and have the Roverlanders join us for this day. Below is a copy and paste of the event thread on bcjeepclub.ca, or if you use facebook you can find the information here: https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/1059 ... 7/?fref=ts

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Again, would really love to get out and wheel with a few Defenders/Disco's/LR's/RR's since I sell the brand but have never seen what they're capable of in person.

If you can find the time for a good time which benefits both of our clubs, but mostly the kids that might go without gifts or food this Christmass, please post up that you will be attending. This is open to anyone with a 4x4 that wants to promote the sport and help combat the negative press us wheelers always seem to get.

Cheers,

Russell Grosser - Land Rover of Richmond.

Thread From BCJC:

Hi Gang,

Well, it's a bit early, but we thought we better get a little info out there about this years toy run. Same basic idea as in previous years, but we're hoping to have this thing be bigger and better than ever. In an effort to achieve that, we're working to make this year much more organized, steamlined, and generally more official than before. Myself and Camron Bell (XJDude), are primarily taking the reigns this year, and we're excited/optimistic to see how this year turns out! At this point this thread is for information, and we will be updating/adding info as we go. Please keep in mind that this is a family event, and drugs will not be tolerated. What you do during the other 364 days of the year is up to you, but let's keep this event clean

When: 9:30am start, Sunday, November 25th, 2012

Where: Sasquatch Inn, 46001 Lougheed hwy (donation collection and raffle)
Hale Creek, West Harrison (BBQ and wheeling)

Again this year we will be collecting unwrapped toys for the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau (http://www.lmcb.ca), and also cash and food donations to benefit other local charities. Last year you guys impressed everyone with your generosity, let's raise the bar again! As always, absolutely everyone is welcome.

A standalone Facebook page has been created for this event as well. 'Like it' and find the event posted on the page. The link to it is: facebook.com/BCJCtoyrun

This event will have a raffle with great prices at the beginning of the event at the Sasquatch Inn, as well as a BBQ (thanks to Shayne for offering to help with that again!) down at the Hale Creek shelter. All cash raised during these events will go to local charities.

To help raise more money, a BC Jeep Club Toy Run decal as been created! This is a one time, year specific thing, so make sure to pick yours up at the event before they're gone! The plan is to have a unique decal for each year of this event. We are going to limit it to one decal per vehicle, at a minimum donation of $5/decal. Below is a sneak peak of this years decal (if ANY of you tries to reproduce it, Cam will come find you and do something nasty ) I should add that Dan from Sticky Signs donated his his time/material for designing and making the decals. A huge thanks is in order there - They're great!

For anyone who may not be able to attend this run, Mazdarx has offered the location of his business, Team 1 Hobbies, as a collection place for toys. 459 East Columbia Street New Westminster, BC V3L 3X6

Team 1 Hobbies also has a list of discounted toys for sale for this run if you are looking for toy donation ideas!

Just an update:

Hope you guys can make it out. We are now up to a few thousand dollars in donated prizes for our raffle that will benefit the lower mainland christmass bureau.

Land Rover of Richmond is supporting the event, and we have approximately 110 vehicles expected at this point.

This will not be a huge wheeling day. More of a charity event with a run to Hale creek. Please invite yourselves to meet at the Sasquatch around 9am on Sunday November 25th. There will be a bbq at Hale (by donation) to also support the charities for this holiday season, and please don't forget your toy donation.

We now have a few Landy drivers officially joining us, and hope you guys will too.

Please see the facebook page. This is next weekend everyone. Again, hoping you guys make it out.

We're expecting not just us, but 4wdabc, crawlin bc, roverlanders, herd of turtles, and maybe some coastal cruisers.

Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/BCJCtoyrun/pos ... un?fref=ts

If you scroll through the posts you'll see what's been donated and get a sense of what's happening for the day. Insurance is in place and so is the permit. Let's all help the kids out this holiday season. At this point it's not club-specific anymore.

Sounds like a bunch of fun. I've had friends who have participated in the run in previous years, and I heard that it was a bunch of fun. I'll be there with my Range Rover! I'll see if I can get some other buddys to come as well. Is there any need to sign up, or register?

No need to sign up. Just have to arrive at the Sasquatch with your unwrapped toy donation for 9:30am. Raffle and giveaways will happen there and we agreed with the Sasquatch that we'd have everyone on the way to Hale by noon so they can have their parking lot back. BBQ by donation is down at Hale.

Can't wait to see 100-150 4x4's all at Hale together. We've got two guys playing parking directors so while slow, it won't be a nightmare in terms of parking or getting out when you need to. While it's a great service to families in need this year, it's also going to be an epic 4x4 get together and a chance for all clubs to mingle and become friendly with one another.

I'll likely wear my Land Rover Richmond jacket at Sasquatch, so make sure you introduce yourselves when you see me.

So I'm hoping you guys come out to support the Lower Mainland Christmass Bureau on Sunday. One of the Jeep Club's members owns a hobby shop in New West and he's bringing a plane, which another member volunteered to strap his GoPro to, and they're going to try and get an arial shot of all the 4x4'ers at Hale. Here's the list so far JUST off of the Jeep Club site. Then there's as many of you that come out, plus the others from other clubs. It's going to be an epic (while long) run to Hale with some wicked pictures hopefully. This will have to be a record for that site I'm sure, and by the way there will be some people directing parking so it won't be as much of a gong show as it could be.

Anyway, see whomever there. Here's that list, but don't go by the count on the left as some are bringing friends and family with their own rigs:

We went along with the Jeepers on this run all I can say is Wow! what a great turnout almost 200 trucks , it was a beautiful sunny day and a good little off road jaunt down to Hale creek for a Barbeque on the beach.... I broke the last remaining link on my rear sway bar dropping off a little rock ledge ( went down to Hale the hard way :D )

lots of toys were Donated to the Christmas Bureau

great day out!

Thanks to the few of you guys that came out. It was good to shake your hands (but unfortunately I was busy getting rigs parked to chat).

Ended up with about 210 vehicles. The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau collected:

- A Suburban plus a 5x8 trailer FULL of toys and gifts
- approximately $4100 in cash donations from the raffle, 50/50, and bbq

It was a truley awesome day. So glad all these wheelers got together for such a great cause.

We had a guy with an R/C plane that put a GoPro mount on it so there are arial shots of everyone. Many pics are up on the bcjeepclub.ca site, some on the facebook page, and I'll pop links into this thread with any others that surface.

Cheers,

Russ
