still no signals

#1 Post by larry emrick » Wed Sep 19, 2012 1:41 pm

Still no joy on getting my series 3 signaL lights to work
To reiterate:
I have replaced the flasher unit (twice, and it is the longer version).
All fuses are intact and have been changed;
The hazard lights function correctly;
The signal lights, including the little arrows on the dash, come on when I move the indicator lever, they just do not flash.
All other lights are working fine.
I can only see one flasher unit behind the dash. Is there a second one?
Is there a possibility the indicator switch/stalk on the steering column is at fault?
I am tempted to replace the indicator switch anyway because it was not cancelling even before the lights stopped flashing.
Any help is deeply appreciate.
Thanks Larry

I might be talking out of turn here because I'm not familiar with the S3 and don't have a schematic in front of me-BUT- most cars I've been familiar with have separate flashers for turn and four-way. I suspect if you've changed only one flasher, then there is another hidden in there somewhere. Check an electrical drawing.

Gentlemen:
Just a quick update on my no-signals dilemma. After trying all your suggestions and pulling the dash three times I gave up and took it over to Don and his people at Rovalution. Turns out to have been fused wires.
Given how much I hate dealing with electrics I should have done that in the first place but the thought of driving it through downtown and over the Lions Gate put me off.
Thanks for your help and thanks to Don and his people.
It's now raining so the top goes back on over the weekend. G'bye to summer.

Hey Larry, good to know you got it fixed.

When saying "fused wires" do you mean two wires had melted insulation and were touching together?

Always good to know the fixes for future diagnostics ....

Andy
