South to North

I have always wondered if you could drive from the Gold Bridge area straight north into the Chilcotin, so with maps in hand, truck loaded with 8 days of supplies for both myself and Rudy, we were off....
On July 26 we started by heading up the Hurley, with our first night at Kingdom Lakes rec site just a little north of Bralorne. Very nice sites right on the lake. Next morning decided to tour around the lakes, Gun, Downtown and Carpenter. Stayed that night at the Tyax resort campsite as i have a friend who runs the Mtn. Bike program there.
The next morning was the start of the push through to the Chilcotin. My route took me past Mud Lakes, where the road ended. I ran into a couple of guys on dirt bikes, who gave me directions...follow the lakes north, a couple of "dipsy doodles", cross the river three times,...then with a smirk on his face, he looks at my 110 and says, "you should be fine". As i drove off i was wondering why the smirk...i was soon to find out.
The track around the lakes was fine with a little off camber sections, with some areas of deep mud ruts, followed by more off camber V gulleys. This was followed by more off camber, with sharp drop offs, combined with more V gullys. I dont think many trucks run this as the trail was very tight and steep. Finally made it to the top, although I dont think Rudy was very happy getting bounced and thrown around in the back. We stopped at the intersection to Poison and big Bar, then continued on over the top of Red Mountain-Churn Creek, finally emerging into a active logging area just south of Gaspard Main FSR...made it!
