2000 d2 brakes

so i changed the rotors and pads on wifes 2000 d2 but the brakes still do not seem right , you can drive it then hammer on the brakes and it still rolls a little before it stops , pedal doesnt feel bad but you dont get the feeling that my 08 truck has , when you jump on those they feel like they will put you through the windsheild , if you had to panic stop in this thing it would take a while to stop , feels that way anyway, any ideas ? troy

Do you have a hard break pedal or spongy pedal while applying the breaks.

Have you tried stopping on gravel to activate the anti lock brakes?

You should be lifted out of your seat only to be held by the seat belt. Anti lock lock pump working.

#1 Bleed brakes.
#2 The take a slow run down a hill with Hill Descent ON in LOW RANGE to pump fluid out of the pump.
#3 Them bleed breaks again.

Did you wash the new rotors be for installing?

Wash new pad & rotors with brake cleaner then reinstall.

The rotor's usually arrive with a coating from machining to prevent rust. Take some red scotch-brite or fine emery cloth after washing to remove shine & put a swirl pattern on the rotors.

After washing the rotors sand the pads also to help remove the coating from the rotors now on the pads.

does not brake that hard , brakes a little spongy , brakleened rotors before install did not do anything to pads though , i will try gravel and anti lock but doubt it will work , did not bleed the brakes because did not disturb anything when installing the rotors and pads, just pushed back the pistons , did notice that after driving with brakes on a little up the street after parking i ran my finger on the front rotors and noticed a gray film on them from the pads ( the pads are silver ) .

What brand pads? In a good working system, that seems to be the biggest variable on stopping feel.

All the pistons were free?

I would flush the system at least. This should be done regardless at no more than 2 year intervals. Also with ABS, it is best to flush first before installing new pads to prevent dirt from getting back into the ABS block.

they work good now , just drove it around the block down a steep hill with the hdc on and by the time i headed for town with it they were fine , the rotors were brit part didnt pay attention to what brand the pads were.
