I cant say I've had much expierence with the headers your talking about but I do have the same 3.9 & auto tranny box on my 91 RRC. If I can relay any info on the set up as it is in my RR I would be happy to help,

Glad to hear you figured out your header-versus-steering problem.

I'm not too familiar with the NWT, but I do know there is a road that runs between Norman Wells & Wrigley, it goes through Fort Norman at the half-way point & follows the Mackenzie river.
The road is called "Tulita-Norman Wells Winter Road", it should be passable for most of the summer months?
Sounds like an interesting road trip!
