What uprated front springs to use on D2 with rear air bags?

#1 Post by davran » Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:38 am

Roveristas,

I'm liking the height of the 245/75x16 tires I'm running on my D2, as they correct speedo error and don't raise the gearing enough for me to want to install 4:11 gears. I also really like the self-leveling rear suspension, and will deal with buying new air bags every five years or so.

My goal is to make the D2 into a safari-lite wagon, so I'm ok with stock ride height (thought I might put in 1" spacers all around). My question is, what uprated front springs would I use that would work with the rear leveling suspension, but would deal with a front winch and maybe ARB bumper in the future?

Thanks,

Hi David,

Old Man Emu make some good aftermarket suspension parts for the D11.
Take a read through this for some useful ideas;

PS what is a "safari-lite wagon" ?

Safari-Lite Wagon: A Land Rover with enough room inside in which to sleep, can get through most off-road situations, and won't cost more than $25,000 in total including purchase price :)

Andy,

The front springs mentioned in the link you proviced are specifically not to be mated with rear air-bag suspension.

The hunt is on...

Ditch your SLS, if they bags don't let you down the compressor will. Go with coils and get a real suspension.

I have the medium rate OME springs in the front with air bags in back.
If you go with a bumper and winch most recommend the heavy duty front springs.

I have not had any issues with my air suspension - but it is only 12 years old. :?

I have added 2" spacers under the air bags and made a new bracket to hold the hight sensor.

Thanks, I was wondering if 2" spacers in the rear and longer, heavier front springs would work.

I love the rear air suspension, and until the system implodes I'll keep it.
