Dealership sponsor.

Good news! Good to me at any rate.
The rally in my back yard is in less than two weeks time. In the past there has been some vendor support. A few of the enthusiasts have gone out and had a few things donated, an air compressor one year, and Wise Owl for some things at the request of Derek and they supplied the makings for the Welly toss awards for a few years. A few of you have donated items too. But I haven't been very successful at soliciting commercial donations. True, Victoria Land Rover gave us some licence plate surrounds and posters, but for the most part I've been turned down. I couldn't be bothered wasting my time going into a business to ask for a handout only to be turned down, so I simply go to Canadian Tire or other similar places and buy prizes and gifts out of pocket. Some money raised at the event offsets the cost somewhat. Essentially the award prizes comes out of my pocket.
Now, here's a little story for you that's worth reading.
The Subaru Half Ironman event was this Sunday at Shawnigan Lake. Bob Saunders of Saunders Subaru in Colwood (just outside Victoria) was a busy man handing out awards and greeting every racer as they crossed the finish line. At the end of the event I thanked Bob for being a main sponsor. He did an awesome job and I suspect it cost a bundle. We chatted and I told him about or rally in a couple weeks. "You're so good at sponsoring this Ironman, maybe you want to help sponsor a car show. I've got one in my back yard in two weeks."
"SURE!" says Bob. "I could certainly do that!"
"No. No. I'm just kidding. It's for Land Rovers! Their your competition."
"Doesn't matter! I'd be happy to give your three door prizes. I might even come by. You just come by the dealership sometime and I'll have three door prizes ready for you."
So, tomorrow I'm driving to Colwood to pick them up. Not bad, and it isn't even from a Land Rover dealership.
To be fair, I haven't been onto the Land Rover dealership about it, I don't get down there very often.
