The Rover-Landers of BC

Hi All,
Due to higher than normal snow levels we have postponed our 1st official snow run into the Whipsaw area, now moved to a weekend in June TBD.

Instead this weekend we are exploring down the Silver Skagit Road which heads south towards the US border from Hope.

It is at a much lower elevation, following the river and valley bottom (meaning a lot less snow) all the way down to Ross Lake which stradles the US - Canadian border. Lots of great camping spots along the valley and the sun has been promised by the weathermen.

There are lots of lakes and loops that spur off from the main FSR that we will attempt to explore along the way.

There has been interest in both Friday evening and Saturday morning meeting points to help everyone meet up, let us know if your coming along and we will get all the details to you. Plan is on returning Sunday late afternoon to highway #1 at Hope.

Since Whipsaw is a no-go, I'm planning on doing Ross Lake run with you guys. I'm not yet sure if I'm going on Friday night or Saturday morning, what are others planning to do?

Hey all,
I am just curious if you made any lead way to chilliwack lake via silverhope creek fsr? I half ass attempted on my way out on monday but was turned around when i met some guys coming out saying that the road was impasible due to a slide and a couple of snow chutes.....

Hi Ryan,
We made it quite a way in and did encounter the slide and snow chutes you were told of. We spent two hours digging and needed bridging/perforated plates to cross the slide and another hour of digging and the plates for the first chute. The second chute was nothing but I'm sure it will be more than a month before there's any possibility of getting past the third chute as it was massive.

Glen and I decided to try going in from the Chilliwack Lake side to see how far we could get. We encountered a big slide with 1'- 2' diameter chunks of granite that we managed to scrape our way across but at 3300', we eventually hit 18" of snow. Had we had more time, I think we could have carried on. Pictures will be posted soon.

We plan to return to try again. How did you guys make out?

Great weekend up in the mountains, very entertaining road with all the obstacles along the way. Big camp fire, no bugs, great company 8)
As Pete says, definately worth a revisit in a few weeks.
